Dave was a huge, green dragon. He had huge wings, sharp claws, and a long tail. He looked like the scariest monster in the world. But Dave had a big secret. He was not scary at all.
While other dragons could breathe hot, orange fire, Dave was different. When Dave opened his mouth, fire didn’t come out. Instead, popcorn came out!
One day, the Dragon King held a "Scariest Roar" contest. All the dragons in the kingdom came to show off. The first dragon roared, and a tree caught on fire. The crowd gasped. The second dragon roared, and a rock melted. The crowd screamed.
Then, it was Dave's turn. He was very nervous. He walked to the center of the stage. He wanted to look tough, so he made a mean face. He took a giant deep breath. He opened his mouth to let out a mighty fire blast.
POP! POP! POPITY-POP!
A huge cloud of warm, buttery popcorn shot out of Dave’s mouth. It covered the judges. It buried the King. The whole kingdom smelled like a movie theater.
For a second, everyone was silent. Then, the King ate a piece of popcorn. "Mmm," said the King. "This is delicious! It has extra butter!"
The crowd cheered. They were not scared, but they were very hungry. Dave did not win the medal for being scary, but he won the "Best Snack Maker" award. Now, Dave is the most popular dragon at every party.
