Winston’s University was relatively decent-sized, moderately known, and semi-prestigious in Scotland. It was known for having good infrastructure for its size, and its faculty was known for being good, but nothing special, next to stalwarts like Oxford and Cambridge. However, there was a controversy going around that the students at Winston’s were practicing an elaborate ritual instead of studying to pass their exams.
As to how this rumor originated, it’s anyone’s guess. Some people theorise that this rumor came to be after a student who unsuccessfully participated in one of these rituals was not able to get the results that he/she expected revealed everything to their friends. This theory also suggested that not everyone at Winston’s was following this weird ritual, because if they were, this story wouldn’t have blown up.
Some people decided to investigate this case, and they began a hunt for people whom they suspected were participating in this ritual. Their primary research subjects were those students who are known to not perform well in their studies, but at the same time, they were also probing students who were scoring very well. That’s because there was a high possibility that these students had been performing so well thanks to that ritual.
After weeks of thorough investigation, a conclusion was finally reached. So apparently, this ritual was not your typical satanic, pentagram-making procedure that involved a sacrifice of blood or anything. It was a sacrifice of a hefty some of money offered to the deity known as the “chief examination coordinator” of the university. Apparently, there were people employed in the exams committee who complained about being paid far less than they deserve. The chief exam coordinator saw this, and wanted to help his employees (and himself) make a quick buck.
He launched this elaborate scheme: taking money from desperate students and supplying them with the most important and heavily-weighted exam questions so that they can pass their exams. Since they were not leaking the entire paper, this illegal (and unethical) exchange became incredibly hard to track. The exact amount that was charged to students varied, with some paying large sums and some paying a relatively lower amount.
One thing’s for certain, this operation had been silently going on for months without anyone getting the slightest whiff of it. This eventually led to the university administration being heavily criticised for failing to prevent such a gross violation of academic integrity. It was speculated that there were more faculty members involved in this con, but they haven’t been identified yet.
As for the student who supposedly leaked the secret of the ritual, no one knows what happened to them or if that student was even real. But that one leak was able to expose this gigantic, unethical operation that would, unfortunately, forever leave a stain on the university’s reputation. It’s important to remember that there are ethical ways to get help with your exam preparation. You do not have to resort to such foul means, no matter how bad your situation may be.
