The Red Notebook

The Red Notebook

Professor Arthur was a quiet old man who lived in a small house near the woods. No one knew he was a genius. Inside his dusty basement, he mixed chemicals day and night. Last Tuesday, he finally finished his life's work. He called it "The Silent Mist."

It looked like plain water, but it was terrible. Arthur knew that just one cup of this liquid could make the air unbreathable for a whole city. It was a weapon that could wipe out millions. He was scared of his own creation. He decided he would burn his red notebook, which contained the secret formula, the very next morning.

That night, a heavy storm hit. Thunder shook the house, and the lights suddenly went out. Arthur sighed and went upstairs to find a candle. He was gone for only three minutes.

When he came back down to the basement, his heart stopped.

The heavy metal door leading to the garden was wide open. Rain was blowing inside, soaking the floor. On his desk, the glass beaker was still there, but the red notebook was gone.

Arthur ran to the door. He saw fresh, muddy footprints leading away into the dark forest. Someone had been watching him. Someone had waited for the perfect moment to strike.

He fell to his knees, ignoring the cold rain. He did not care about money or fame. He knew that in the wrong hands, his formula could end the world. With shaking hands, he picked up his phone.

"It is gone," he whispered to the dark. "God help us all."
